monterey media acquires
Winter of Frozen Dreams

November 21, 2008 Thousand Oaks, CA- monterey media inc. is thrilled to announce the acquisition of Winter of Frozen Dreams: the compelling true story of passion, greed and murder in America's Heartland. The film has been acquired by monterey media from Winter of Frozen Dreams, LLC for US and Canadian distribution in all video markets.

Winter of Frozen Dreams is the true-life story of Barbara Hoffman (played by Thora Birch) who was both a brilliant biochemistry student at the University of Wisconsin and Madison's most notorious prostitute. On a frigid Christmas morning in 1977, Barbara Hoffman's distraught young fiancé, Jerry Davies led police investigators to a corpse, which only hours before, he had buried in a snow bank. Detective Lulling (played by Keith Carradine) and the police investigators uncover the naked and brutally bludgeoned body of Harry Berge. Davies desperately insists that he is not a murderer and that he and Hoffman are guilty only of burying the corpse of a stranger. Thus begins Winter of Frozen Dreams, a sordid love story and a macabre web of blackmail, lust, and deceit.

The media frenzy and public appetite for the story as it unfolded in the late 1970s was unprecedented and still after all these years, draws heated debate. The Hoffman case is heralded as one of the most fascinating and bizarre criminal cases in Wisconsin history. The only statement that Barbara Hoffman made was to say that she "is not guilty of the crimes of which I am accused". The Hoffman case was the first televised murder trial in US history. Nearly thirty years after her conviction, Barbara Hoffman still sits in prison, refusing to give interviews or to go before the parole board.

Winter of Frozen Dreams stars Thora Birch (American Beauty, Ghost World), Keith Carradine (Academy Award winner, Golden Globe Award winner and EMMY nominee), Brendan Sexton III, Leo Fitzpatrick, Dan Moran and Dean Winters (Law & Order, Rescue Me). The screenplay is written by Michael Graf, John Besmer & Michael Caughill and Eric Mandelbaum and is based on the book "Winter of Frozen Dreams" by Karl Harter. The film is executive produced by Omar Peraza and is produced by Milka Stanisic, Anthony J. Vorheis and Millie Stanisic. Winter of Frozen Dreams is directed by Eric Mandelbaum.
