Estranged from family, having slacker boyfriend troubles, and fired from her waitressing job, sometimes musician 23-year-old Eleanor needs a new place to live and a new job.

Fate winds her lovely fingers around these two lives to unexpectedly place the inexperienced Eleanor as the new au pair for a skeptical Reggie and the music in their hearts and souls intertwines to create this beautiful story about discovery and acceptance.

Leighton Meester struggles with a break-up, a new job, and a sick father in the trailer of her upcoming movie Like Sunday, Like Rain. The 28-year-old actress plays Eleanor, a struggling musician who becomes the live-in nanny of a 12-year-old music prodigy one summer. Like Sunday, Like Rain also stars Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, Debra Messing, and Julian Shatkin.(more)

Leighton Meester: I originally got the script when I was living in New York. I thought it read like a song. It’s rhythmic and it sneaks up on you – the themes, the character, the dialogue, the scenes, the story. It stays with you the more you watch it, and it changes its meaning. I had a meeting to talk about the script and the character with Frank [Whaley, writer and director] for hours. (more)

The fifth-annual Williamsburg Independent Film Festival kicks off Thursday with a New York story acted out by a rock star, a former Gossip Girl and a sitcom darling. “Like Sunday, Like Rain” headlines the four-day movie fest set to screen 58 flicks at the Wythe Hotel. (more)

Leighton Meester is nanny to a 12-year-old prodigy, played by young discovery Julian Shatkin, and over a few months their lives intertwine. There are brief appearances by Debra Messing (as the boy's inattentive, largely absent mother), and Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, as Leighton's ex. Armstrong joined the funny, self-deprecating Whaley onstage, alongside the beautiful Meester. He was also the source of the best interaction I've seen at the festival all week(more)

And as predicted, the performances in this film exceed expectations. Not only are the characters believable and far from the usual types one can find in this kind of film (think the low-class girl struggling in the big town, or the annoying smart kid), but both Meester and newcomer Shatkin are perfect for their parts.(more)

This is a must-see at the Mill Valley Film Festival next week! This drama paints a striking portrait of Reggie (Julian Shatkin), a wealthy and neglected twelve-year-old prodigy with the maturity of a middle-aged man; and Eleanor ( Leighton Meester), a broke ex-musician in her twenties recently out of work, boyfriend and home, who lands a job as Reggie’s au pair for the summer in Manhattan while his mother (Debra Messing) travels overseas. (more)

The festival has a few impressive dramas to look out for. “Like Sunday, Like Rain” is an incredible character piece, with exquisite pictorial cinematography and a captivating performance by an up-and-coming young actor. (more)

His fourth feature film follows the themes his previous films seem to like explore, namely the struggle of being a young artist with the weight of responsibility pushing in. Like Sunday, Like Rain features Leighton Meester as a struggling musician suddenly assigned legal guardianship of a 12 year old boy – who happens to be a musical prodigy. Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong plays her boyfriend, and Debra Messing plays the boy’s mother.(more)

Julian is arguably the film’s most captivating force, whose performance can be seen during the Hamptons International Film Festival on Saturday, October 11, at Regal East Hampton Cinema and Sunday, October 12, at Southampton Regal Bay Cinema. He portrays wise-beyond-his-years Reggie, a musical prodigy whose extremely wealthy mother, portrayed by Debra Messing, hires him a live-in nanny named Eleanor (Leighton Meester) who carries baggage of her own. Thoughtful cinematography follows the unlikely pair through their adventures in Manhattan as they test each other’s boundaries and forge a friendship that neither could have expected. (more)

It took seven years and twenty days for actor/ writer/ director, Frank Whaley, to create Like Sunday, Like Rain. Screened during the anchor leg of the annual Williamstown Film Festival, which ended yesterday, it proved to be small, understated, absorbing and emotionally devastating. (more)

Like Sunday, Like Rain looks at life through the eyes of a child wise beyond his years. The boy in question is Reggie (newcomer Julian Shatkin), a musical prodigy whose immensely wealthy mother (Debra Messing) chooses hired help over actual parenting.(more)
