A Program of Satire"A visually stunning and joyful celebration of poetry." Since the days of Horace and Juvenal two thousand years ago, poets have enjoyed writing satire: using humor and wit to criticize human behavior and potentially remodel the world. In this lively presentation, twelve poets from Jonathan Swift to Richard Armour aim their wit at a wide variety of targets including political oratory, mishandled metaphors, newspaper headlines and married life. Edith Sitwell’s famous “Tarantella” concludes the program with the nonsensical chattering of satyrs in a garden.
As seen on PBS.
