The Restoration Wits"A visually stunning and joyful celebration of poetry." On May 29th, 1660, the bells pealed and bonfires were lit throughout London. A Stuart monarch, Charles the Second, was restored to the throne. The King soon surrounded himself with lovely ladies and lively lords, among whom were some accomplished poets of often-saucy verse who have since become known as The Restoration Wits. Cyril Ritchard (famed as Captain Hook in “Peter Pan”) stars as the Earl of Rochester as he and his aristocratic friends gather at Will’s Coffee House to read their latest poems and improvise verse to tease the local serving wenches, who as it turns out, can give as well as they get. A celebration of sparkling poetry and song that exalts the charm and beauty of the English language.
